What is AI or Artificial Intelligence?

Many people automatically assume that the purpose of AI is to conduct human like tasks.  This is the classic portrayal as seen in the movies.  The benchmark for AI used to be the Turing Test.  See the Wikipedia article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turing_test for more information on the Turing Test.  In reality, AI in its many different forms is in use around us everyday in things from spam filters, mobile phones to microwaves and search engines.  From a programming point of view, AI is the creation of software that can learn from its mistakes, acquire knowledge and interact with its chosen environment (human or otherwise) and make self derived decisions based upon rules that may have been taught or learned from experience.

AI can be put to good use in a number of ways. It is used to diagnose faults, recommend treatment plans, answer customer queries, control machines, make risk assessments and a myriad of other complex problems where data needs to be  evaluated quickly to a set of rules.

Our core AI product is the open source AI server known affectionately as EarnestAI.  EarnestAI was the concept and work of Scot D Forshaw.

Client applications
The AI server whilst providing a platform to run client apps on, does not in itself have a user interface.  This is the job of the client application programmer to provide.  Using the very simple API system, the programmer can create highly complex client applications that use the processing power of EarnestAI to yield results.  This approach largely takes the strain from the client device in favour of the host server, internal or remote, allowing the developer to create very powerful applications on very limited devices such as mobile phones etc.
